Japan Cherry Blossom Festival in Hanoi lures over one million visitors
The festival aims to promote the national image, culture and people of Japan, and bring Vietnamese and Japanese people closer together.
The Japan Cherry Blossom Festival, which took place at the King Ly Thai To park in the heart of Hanoi from March 29 to April 2, welcomed more than one million visitors, Nhan Dan newspaper reported, citing the municipal Department of Culture and Sports.
According to the organizing board, held for the fourth consecutive year in Vietnam's capital city, this year’s event attracted the biggest number of visitors. Besides 20,000 cherry blossom branches and 100 cherry trees brough from Japan, the organizers had prepared 10,000 cherry blossom branches for replacement.
During the 2019 Japan Cherry Blossom Festival, visitors had a chance to enjoy many traditional dishes of Japan. In addition, Hanoians also enjoyed a wide range of cultural and artistic performances of Vietnam and Japan, including Yosakoi - a unique style of flashmob dance, Shogi - Japanese chess, and Kendama - literally “sword and ball”, a traditional cup-and-ball toy, Vietnamese arts also form part of the festival, including ca tru and hat xam.
Within the festival, a cherry tree planting ceremony was held at Hoa Binh Park in Hanoi’s Tu Liem district.
The festival was organized by the Hanoi People’s Committee, Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Hoan Kiem district People’s Committee in coordination with the Japanese embassy in Vietnam and Japan's Wanokai International Culture Association.
