Japan's bio-nanotechnology improves water quality in Hanoi’s polluted river

The water samples were taken at three points in the piloted areas to conduct quick tests of PH and TU index.

After three days of treating water in a section of To Lich river in Hanoi with Japan’s Nano-Bioreactor technology, the water quality of that section has been significantly improved, local media reported.

On May 20, the Institute of Environmental Technology under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology sampled water quality on To Lich river after three days of installing Nano - Bioreactor technology.

Le Minh Duc, an employee of the Institute of Environmental Technology, said the results of quick tests have shown that pollution in the river has been reduced after the application of the Nano - Bioreactor technology.

The in-depth test was carried out in the institute’s laboratory. Quick test results show that the index of alkaline and dissolved oxygen in the piloted areas has recorded positive changes, Duc added.

Nguyen Tuan Anh, chairman of Nhat Viet Environmental Improvement Joint Stock Company, said that the Institute of Environmental Technology will continue comparing samples before and after installing the treatment technology. The results will be analyzed by an independent unit.

Japan's Nano - Bioreactor has four outstanding advantages compared to current technologies in Vietnam, according to Anh.

The technology includes nanotechnology aeration using natural substances which the Japanese side has surveyed for two years before piloting it. The nano aeration system uses a specially-designed filter technology to extract air directly from the environment and then diffuse it into the water in the form of nano-sized air bubbles.

The diffusion of nano-sized air bubbles in the water increases the dissolved oxygen content in the treated water area, including groundwater. As a result, aerobic microorganisms will be activated and natural metabolic processes will be nourished, the final nutrition chain will be improved. Recovering the nutrient chain will improve the water quality in a short time.

The technology will save costs considerably than other wastewater treatment technologies.

Currently, To Lich river has three main problems which are the bad smell, mud in the riverbed and water quality. Japanese experts affirmed that the bio-nano system installed in the riverbed will solve these problems radically.
