Launching the National Micro-nutrient Day

The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Hanoi Health Department on May 25 launched the National Micro-nutrient Day themed "Micro-nutrient necessary for child growth and development" at Binh Yen A Kindergarten in Thach That district.

According to Deputy Head of the ministry's Department of Preventive Medicine Truong Dinh Bac, the action will offer about 5 million under-five children nationwide free vitamin A capsules on the first - and second - day of June.

Bac said it is necessary to narrow any nutrition gaps between children in different areas.
The annual action by the Ministry of Health aims to improve public awareness about vitamin deficiency and reduce related diseases and malnutrition among children and mothers.
According to the National Institute of Nutrition, micro-nutrient deficiencies hamper child growth and immunisation.
Vietnam successfully used vitamin A to overcome xerophthalmia (dry eyes) among children.
