The Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam Culture Week opened on December 8 at the Museum of Cultures of Vietnam’s Ethnic Groups in the northern province of Thai Nguyen.
Attending the opening ceremony were Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai, Vice Chairman of Thai Nguyen provincial People’s Committee, delegates from the Malaysian Embassy and the Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam, along with leaders of departments and branches in the province.
The event, held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is part of cultural exchange activities within ASEAN.
The cultural week offers an opportunity to promote traditional products and the unique cuisines of Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam to international visitors.
It features more than 100 artists from the three countries. Fine arts, handicrafts, vegetarian cuisine and folk performances are in the spotlight, helping visitors gain insights into the diverse cultures of ASEAN countries.
The week will feature the participation of 25 artisans, teachers and students of Teknologi Mara University, Malaysia and two Batik artisans from Indonesia.
Meanwhile the Vietnamese delegation includes 30 artisans comprised of representatives from the six ethnic groups of the Mong, Dao, Thai, Cham, Tay and Pa Then.
During the event, a series of exhibitions will display Vietnamese Ao Dai, traditional costumes of Malaysia and Indonesia, an Indonesian Batik painting performance, a Vietnamese embroidery performance and a Malaysian culinary competition.
Besides, cross-cultural exchanges to promote Thai Nguyen tea and discover the cultures of ASEAN, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam are also included during the week.
Exhibitions on traditional paintings of the three countries and Vietnam’s sovereignty over sea and islands were organised before the opening ceremony.
On the occasion, representatives of the three countries will visit a tea growing area in Thai Nguyen and attractions in Hanoi.
The cultural week runs until December 11.
