“Perfectly Magical!” takes place on Hanoi’s 19/12 book street on May 6 - 7 and HCM City’s Nguyen Van Binh street on May 13 – 14. The British Council and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the country’s largest Harry Potter fan club, will host numerous events including interactive games, trivia and drawing contests.
The highlight of the event will be a competition between fans to win the ‘House Cup’, a prize at the magical school of Hogwarts awarded at the end of every school year to the house with most points.
Fans with the best knowledge of the Harry Potter universe and British culture will be selected through an online test before gathering at the Ho Chi Minh City Book Street next Saturday to compete for the House Cup. Other contests and events sponsored by the British Embassy in Vietnam will be held throughout the month for prizes of Harry Potter books and other franchise gear.
Making its debut 20 years ago, the novel has become a firm favorite among young Vietnamese readers. The series, written by British novelist J. K. Rowling, chronicles the life of teenage boy Harry Potter as he discovers that he is a wizard and defends the wonderful world of magic against evil forces.
Rowling’s debut work in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was first published in 1997 by Bloomsbury. The first Vietnamese-language Harry Potter book was published in Vietnam in 2000 by Tre Publishing House after the conclusion of negotiations between Rowling and the Vietnamese translator Ly Lan. Vietnam was among the earliest countries to gain publishing rights to the book.
