Ministry says ready to protect Vietnamese immigrants detained in Malaysia
Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) pledges to protect Vietnamese nationals` legitimate rights.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has affirmed that actions have been taken to verify the information that 41 Vietnamese people were detained in Malaysia as illegal immigrants.
Malaysian media in early July reported that the country’s Immigration Department has detained 1,224 illegal immigrants in 473 operations under Op Mega 3.0 conducted nationwide.
Of the figure, there are 41 Vietnamese nationals among others of Bangladesh, Indonesian, the Philippines, Myanmar and Thailand, according to a Malaysian official.
Regarding this issue, the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia has contacted with related agencies of Malaysia to verify the information and handle the issue, said MoFA Deputy Spokesperson Ngo Toan Thang at a regular press briefing on July 5.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs always tries to find way to ensure and protect the Vietnamese citizens’ legitimate rights”, Thang stressed.
