The run route will bring athletes the new experience of Da Nang’s beauty.
More than 7,000 local and foreign runners from 30 countries have registered to join the 2018 Da Nang International Marathon – one of the top marathon destinations in Southeast Asia, the organizing board said at a press conference on August 7.
The race along beach track in the central city will be held on August 12 with four distances – a full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), a 10km run and a 5km fun run.
Some 900 runners have registered for the full-marathon of 42km, 1,700 runners have signed up for the half marathon of 21km and more than 1,000 runners will take part in the 10km race.
The 5km fun run has seen as the largest number of participants in the history of the race with 3,400 runners. In addition, more than 200 kid runners will take part in the 1km race.
In this year’s race, runners will race from East Sea Park to cross through bridges, Tran Thi Ly and Thuan Phuoc, and beach track in the Son Tra peninsula. Accordingly, many prizes worth a total of VND300 million (US$13,200) will be awarded for the winners of the race.
The race is the first Vietnamese marathon certified by the International Amateur Athletics Association (IAAF) and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.
In 2017, nearly 5,000 runners from 44 countries and territories raced in the event. More than US$21,000 was raised for handicapped people and orphans, victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, disabled people, the Village of Hope and 15 low-income families in the city.
