NA Chairman hails strategic ties with Italy

Vietnam-Italy relations have developed well in all fields in recent times, especially after the two countries established a strategic partnership in January 2013, says National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

Meeting with the President of the Italian Senate Pietro Grasso in Rome on March 20, Hung proposed the Italian parliament approve and facilitate the European Parliament’s adoption of the Vietnam-EU Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) signed in June 2012.

He also called on Italy to support the EU in concluding Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations with Vietnam this year.

Hung appreciated the establishment of the Italy-Vietnam friendship parliamentarian group, saying this is a vivid manifestation of the fine cooperation between the two legislative bodies.

Pietro Grasso welcomed Hung’s visit, which he hoped will help deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries and their legislatures in particular.

He said the Italian Senate and Parliament are willing to support the Vietnam National Assembly in improving its capacity and skills by providing technical support and sharing experience in legislation and supervision.

Both host and guest agreed to increase exchange visits and foster cooperation at multilateral forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Forum (IPU), Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP), and Asia-Pacific Forum (APF).

They said the two legislative bodies will better oversee the implementation of the agreements signed by their governments and ministries, to bring practical benefits to both sides.
