National Tourism Year 2018 to be held with two main events in Ha Long

The National Tourism Year opening ceremony and Carnaval Ha Long 2018 will include two main events.

This was announced by Le Ngoc Han, Deputy Director of Quang Ninh Department of information and Communication at the press conference on April 24.
Two main events including: a ceremony and an arts performance. The Carnaval and arts programme will consist of three parts on themes of “Spirituality; Unique and Multi-Colour; Integration and Diffusion”. In addition, there will be a high-altitude fireworks display and a DJ show.

In addition, from April 27 to May 2, a various cultural activities will also be held in Quang Ninh, including the Asian Food and Culture Festival 2018 (April 27 at October 30 Square, Ha Long city); the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Fair (April 27 at the Quang Ninh Planning, Fair And Exhibition Palace); and an arts performance entitled “Hello Ha Long 2018” (April 29 at Bai Chay ferry station, Ha Long city).
In 2017, Quang Ninh accommodated 9.87 million arrivals, including 4.28 million foreigners, up 18% and 23% year on year, respectively. The province earned over VND17.88 trillion (US$786.9 million), up 30% year-on-year, and contributed VND3.2 trillion (US$140.8 million) to the State budget, accounting for 11.9% of the local budget collection.
Quang Ninh hopes to welcome 12 million visitors this year, including five million foreigners, and earn VND22 trillion (US$968 million), Director of the provincial Department of Tourism Pham Ngoc Thuy was quoted as saying.
The province’s master plan for tourism development by 2020 with a vision to 2030 sets the target of turning Quang Ninh into an international tourism centre, and the nation’s leading tourism centre, which has a synchronous and modern infrastructure system and diversified tourism products, according to the provincial Tourism Department.
By 2020, Quang Ninh, which is home to the World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay, is aiming to welcome 15 - 16 million tourists, including seven million foreigners, and to rake in VND30 - 40 trillion (US$1.3-1.7 billion) in revenue. The tourism sector is expected to contribute 14 - 15% to the gross regional domestic product (GRDP), and generate jobs for about 130,000 people.
