New physiognomy of Khanh Hoa tourism province

With plenty of tourism potential from it’s natural beauty and rich history, Khanh Hoa province has been implementing projects on preserving and promoting heritage values, as well as investment projects aimed at making the province an economic, cultural and tourist centre in south central coastal region of Vietnam.

Promoting heritage values

Khanh Hoa province has three spectacular world-renowned bays. Among of them, Cam Ranh Bay is assessed as one of three best natural seaports in the world. Nha Trang Bay is listed as one of 29 most beautiful bays in the world and Van Phong is a key tourist destination, highly appreciated by the World Tourism Organisation. Khanh Hoa province also boasts hundreds of coral islands, scattered over an area of 200,000 square kilometers.
The province is rich in cultural heritage, with 1,150 relic sites. Among the sites, 15 have been recognised as national relic sites and 164 as provincial relic sites. Khanh Hoa is one of the provinces with many valuable relic sites, such as Ponagar Tower or Dien Khanh ancient citadel.
In 2014, the province received two additional national historical sites: two steles affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago on Song Tu Tay and Sinh Ton communes in Truong Sa district, and a memorial site for the ship coded C235, which transported weapons from the north to the southern battlefield during the US war, in Ninh Van commune, Ninh Hoa town.
Khanh Hoa also has three official national intangible cultural heritages: Cau Ngu (whale worship) Festival, Ponagar Temple Festival, and the “leaving the tomb” ceremony of Raglai people. Cultural values have been preserved through handwriting, funeral oration, traditional crafts, and festivals.
Over the past years, the province has strengthened their efforts to preserve and promote cultural heritages in Khanh Hoa. From 2006 to 2013, the province improved implementation of the national target programme on restoring relic sites. On top of VND15 billion from the national target programme on restoring relic sites, the provincial Monuments Conservation Centre granted VND 300 million to restore 38 provincial-level relic sites. Additionally, the province mobilized VND4 billion from social resource to restore 20 other provincial-level relic sites. Some enterprises also participated in activities aiming to restore and promote heritage in Khanh Hoa.
Highlight in developing
Aiming to become a modern industrial province, Khanh Hoa is focusing on exploiting its natural advantages to reach the set socio-economic targets and make the most of its potential for a tourism, services, and maritime-based economy in a sustainable manner.
A master plan up to 2025 for the South Phu Yen-North Khanh Hoa region was approved by the Prime Minister. Under the master plan, an oil refinery and several other interdisciplinary industrial parks will be constructed on a total area of 2,682 hectares in the Southern Phu Yen industrial zone in the 2015- 2025 period.
Large-scale trade and service centers will be built in South Phu Yen and Van Phong economic zones while sub-regional urban areas − including Ninh Hoa, Ninh Sim and Hai Rieng − will become wholesale centers.
Khanh Hoa has also called on domestic and international investors to put forward plans for the cultural, tourism and socio-economic development of Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa.
The projects promise to strengthen infrastructure, which aim to meet the increasing demand of tourists and create a new physiognomy for Nha Trang city in the near future, while also serving the fifth Asian Beach Games (ABG) in September, 2016.
