New Vietnamese Ambassador to the US nominated

Vietnam has just nominated its Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc as new ambassador to the US for the 2018-21 tenure.

Other five ambassadors, along with Ngoc, received the nomination decision from President Tran Dai Quang on March 26. Accordingly, Dang Dinh Quy, another Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs is assigned to the role of new ambassador and head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations for the 2017-20 tenure.

The country also appoints new ambassador to Indonesia, New Zealand, Mozambique, Iran (concurrently Syria and Iraq).
The nominated ambassadors have “firm political courage, enthusiasm and efficient capacity for the position assigned”, said President Tran Dai Quang. He asks them to prove their diplomatic role, reinforce Vietnam’s initiative at multilateral forums, mechanisms especially at the United Nation and ASEAN, given the fact that Vietnam is running for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2020-21 and is about to assume the post of ASEAN Chair in 2020.
As stated by Quang, the overseas Vietnamese should be advocated to “head to the country and develop the homeland”. Hence, the Vietnam representative agencies should become “reliable support sources for the overseas Vietnamese citizens and enterprises”.
The new Vietnam's Ambassador to the US
Ngoc, serving as the country’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, will replace current Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh. He was born in 1963 in Hanoi and holds a master’s degree in international relations.
His diplomatic career began in 1988. Ngoc has since garnered significant experience in bilateral relationships, particularly between Vietnam and its partner countries in North America. He was appointed to the role of the foreign minister’s assistant and head of the Department of American Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August 2011.
In May 2013 he was approved as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. The diplomat is fluent in English and is married with two children.
