Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory celebrated

Thousands of people on Monday flocked to Dong Da Park in Ha Noi to celebrate the 226th anniversary of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory led by national hero Nguyen Hue over Qing invaders.

In the Spring of 1789, Nguyen Hue, who was later proclaimed Emperor Quang Trung, launched a surprise attack and defeated more than 29,000 Qing soldiers during a battle on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year to liberate Thang Long (Ha Noi now).

The victory of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da went down into the nation’s history as an immortal epic of the struggle for national construction and defence.

The festival included incense offering ceremony, palanquin procession and a range of artistic performances in memory of King Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue and Tay Son soldiers.

The event aims to pay tributes to national hero Nguyen Hue and and educate patriotic and combat traditions to young generations.
