As revealed by the organising board at the meeting in Hanoi on July 11, the theme of the National Tourism Year 2017 will be “Northwest Colours”.
The organising committee has also chosen the logo of the National Tourism Year 2017 Lao Cai - Northwest, featuring a stilt house – the most typical architecture in the region - on background of blue sky and mountain.
The northwestern province of Lao Cai will host the year, with the participation of other provinces in the region, while other provinces and cities nationwide such as Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hue, Danang, Can Tho and HCM city are to hold supporting activities for the national event.
Speaking at the conference, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien stressed the need to organise the opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2017 impressed with the public and tourists, reflecting diversified cultures of the Northwest.
The most important task is how to attract more visitors to the region, minister Thien said, and adding that the locality as well as the Northwest should be interested in drawing both international travelers and domestic tourists.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lao Cai province, the inaugural ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2017 Lao Cai - Northwest is planned for February 2017.
To prepare for the National Tourism Year 2017 Lao Cai, the locality has coordinated with other regional localities with the focus on developing typical tourist products of the northwest region.
The region has also looked to develop the tourism sector by trying to attract more investors and building infrastructure.
The provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that there will be 23 main events during the National Tourism Year 2017. A cultural, sport and tourism festival of northwest ethnic groups scheduled to take place in October this year will be the event’s curtain raiser.
