Numerous activities to be held in response to World Water Day 2018
A wide range of activities will be held across Vietnam to respond World Water Day 2018, an annual event celebrated on March 22.
World Water Day is seen as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
The activities include an arts programme entitled ‘Water and Life’, a seminar on green solutions for water resources, an exhibition of paintings and photos on water, nature and the environment, and a display of the latest water saving tech products.
Trailers and reports on the 2018 World Water Day will also be broadcast to raise public awareness of the event and water-related issues in particular, thus calling on their actions to protect and conserve water sources.
Celebrations will be scheduled in centrally-run cities and provinces throughout the country to mark the occasion.
The International World Water Day was first formally proposed in Agenda 21 of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.
In 1993, the first World Water Day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly and each year since then it has focused on a different issue.
Under the theme ‘Nature for Water’, the 2018 event explores how people can use nature-based solutions to overcome water challenges and the affects of climate change in the 21st century.
