Numerous visitors attend 2016 Calligraphy Writing Festival

Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports opened the 2016 Calligraphy Writing Festival in the Temple of Literature on February 2 with an exhibition themed "While drinking water, remember its source".

Writing calligraphy is popular for local people during the Lunar New Year (Tet). The festival aims to welcome Tet holidays as well as promote the Vietnamese tradition.
The 2016 Calligraphy Writing Festival consists the two main activities, including Calligraphy exhibition and writing.

Calligraphy is considered an art that is appealing to all ages.
As part of this year's festival, an exhibition is showcasing nearly 100 artworks by local calligraphers around the Literature Lake.
Nearly 100 calligraphers offer calligraphy works in both Vietnamese and Chinese characters for people to adorn their homes or as gifts in hopes of bringing health and good luck in the coming year.
These calligraphers whose works are on display at the exhibition will also participate in the booths of the 2016 Calligraphy Writing Festival.
In addition to senior calligraphers, many young ones with a passion for the art were qualified to write at the festival.
At the opening ceremony, works performed by two young calligraphers, Nguyen Tam An Su (20 years old) and Nguyen Hoai Thu (31 years old) were highly appreciated by various visitors.

The organising board has focused on enhancing the quality of calligraphy works at the festival, Nguyen Huu Tri calligrapher, the member of the board said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Truong Minh Tien said that the calligraphy works on display at the exhibition show the deep meanings about human values and moral traditions of the nation through the subtle art of performance.
At the opening ceremony, numerous Hanoi residents, especially the youth gathered to apply for letters wishing good luck in the coming year.
The festival will run until February 15.
