Opening the 2015 Khmer ethnic culture, sports and tourism festival

The opening ceremony of the 2015 Khmer ethnic culture, sports and tourism festival was held in Tinh Bien district, An Giang province on April 12. The festival will be run until April 14.

Attending the ceremony were representatives from the Steering Committee for the Southwest, leaders of An Giang province, departments, committees, organizations and thousands of Kinh, Hoa, Cham and Khmer ethnic people.
The event aimed to preserve and promote traditional cultural identities, build national solidarity relation, improve cultural enjoyment and create exciting atmosphere among Khmer ethnic people.
A series of art programes took place during the ceremony, including a show on Khmer traditional clothes, a traditional food performance, an exhibition about Khmer ethnic people, and folk games to mark the 40th anniversary of the Southern Liberation and National Unification (April 30) and the 125thanniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birth.

The event created an opportunity for artisans in the province to meet, exchange and share experiences in culture and arts, sports.
Besides, the festival introduced specific characteristics in tourism sector in Khmer-ethnic inhabited areas on the occasion of Chol Chnam Thmay traditional festival.
