The General Secretary affirmed the positive development of Vietnam-UK relations in recent years, especially since the two nations established strategic partnership relations in September 2010.
Trong expressed his desire that UK Prime Minister's visit would contribute to enhancing mutual understanding, boost relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and UK political parties, and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education and training.
The General Secretary thanked UK's supports for Vietnam's socio-economic development, poverty reduction and international integration.
The Party chief expected that the UK would continue raising its positive voice for the peaceful settlement of disputes in the Asia-Pacific region and the world.
For his part, PM David Cameron declared that the UK Government treasures ties with Vietnam and considers Vietnam one of its important partners.
The UK will step up efforts to implement commitments in priority fields mentioned in the joint statement on the establishment of Vietnam-UK strategic partnership, he added.
Both General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and PM David Cameron identified economic-trade and investment links as a focus of the bilateral relationship and stressed the need to strengthen ties between political parties and legislatures.
The UK leader hoped that ties between the two countries will further develop in the future for mutual interests and for peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.
