The Government chief tasked his inferiors to continue to deploy social welfare policies, especially on poverty reduction in 2015.
PM Nguyen Tan Dung made the point today in Ha Noi at a video-teleconference with local leaders. According to a report of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in 2014, the national poverty rate was 5.8-6% but over 33% of ethnic minority groups still suffered from hunger.
Over VND 12 trillion of the State budget were spent on healthcare insurance for the poor, the ethnic minority groups, under six-year-old children, nearly-poor households, pupils, students. Ethnic minority people benefited from VND 755 billion on preferential policies on land, production land and water supply. Over 403,000 poor households accessed preferential credits worth over VND 9,577 billion. Over 61,000 disadvantageous pupils and students borrowed study credits.

A large number of poverty reduction models were implemented. The national poverty rate and the proportion of poor households in poor districts and communes dropped sharply.
By the year end, the national poverty rate was reduced by 1.8-2% against last year (falling from 7.8% to only 5.8-6%). Especially, the rate in poor districts decreased by 5% (from 38.2% in 2013 to only 33.2% in 2014).
Transport order safety progressed positively. Traffic accidents declined in three criteria including the number of accidents (down 13.8%); the number of deaths (down 4%) and the number of injuries (down
17.2%).
However, other scopes of social welfare including healthcare, education, vocational training, traffic accidents and anti-social evils still caught public concern and needed proper solutions in 2015, said PM Dung.
According to a draft resolution of the Government on major tasks and solutions guiding and directing the realization of theplan for socio-economic development and state budget estimate in 2015, a group of three measures were raised to improve social welfare and living standards for people.
Especially, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs would work with relevant agencies and localities to deploy measures on job generation and for higher income, especially rural workers and newly-graduated students.
Other policies and programs to reduce sustainably poverty, prevent social evils, and ensure better healthcare services and food hygiene will be implemented.
