Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a meeting with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on the sideline of the signing ceremony of the free trade agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the Eurasia Economic Union (EAEU) in Kazakhstan’s northern Burabai province on May 29.
The Vietnamese PM valued the leading role played by Russia in getting the negotiations and signing of the FTA between Vietnam and the EAEU done as schedule.
He asked Russia and other EAEU member states to soon complete approval procedures for the agreement, in order to quickly put the incentives to use, thus further promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation in the near future.

PM Medvedev said the fact that Vietnam is the first partner to sign an FTA with the EAEU demonstrates the country’s role and position in the region and the world.

He expressed his belief that the pact will not only help expand the bilateral cooperation and lift two-way trade, but also create an impetus for investment projects in the two nations, thus deepening the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The two leaders also agreed to actively implement agreements reached between the two Governments during Medvedev’s recent visit to Vietnam, especially in the fields of energy, investment, security and defence.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the Russian PM affirmed that his country advocates settling disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
