On June 20, in Dak Lak Province, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had the conference on solutions for sustainable forest restoration in the Central Highlands in order to respond climate change.
At the conference, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked for greater efforts to recover and develop natural forest in the Central Highlands to promptly and effectively prevent deforestation in the region.
The PM highlighted the role of forest in the Central Highlands, which holds a crucial strategic position, saying that the Party and State have adopted socio-economic guidelines and polices related to protecting forest, contributing to promoting the development of the region.
It is necessary to mobilize the whole political system, the business community and the local people to recovering and developing natural forest, striving to achieve the set goals, improve people’s lives and enhance the socio-economic development, he said.
He asked for arranging the agricultural and forestry farms and proposing policies to ensure incomes for forest guardians and growers as well as cancel the construction of hydro-electricity plants which occupy and destroy the forest.
The PM also required authorities, police and army forces to join hands in preventing deforestation as well as strictly deal with illegal and corruption activities. The Government chief also requested addressing free immigration, enhancing communications and raising the awareness of local people in forest protection and development.
Representing Central Highlands' Steering Committee for deforestation threat alert, it aims to recognize the main cause leading to "bleeding" of Highland Forest, that is forest conversion and deforestation. According to MARD, the cause of deforestation is the free migration issues, the management of poor forest protection and management of timber processing facilities, venues purchase and sale of inefficient wood, the upcoming and renewing the forest companies to face many difficulties and problems, specific policy mechanisms for forestry development in the Central Highlands, that is not strong enough.
