On December 19 afternoon, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with visiting General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith.
The Lao Party and State leader is in Vietnam for an official friendly visit from December 19-21 at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and President Tran Dai Quang.
PM Phuc expressed joy at the success of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Year 2017, saying that the Governments of both countries have guided their ministries, sectors, localities and businesses in implementing Vietnam-Laos joint statements, agreements reached by their leaders, and cooperative pacts, programmes and plans, contributing to political stability, socio-economic development and international integration of each country.
Party General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith commended the two governments for their close coordination and effective work in assessing bilateral cooperation and addressing obstacles in the implementation of key cooperative projects as well as outstanding problems in bilateral ties.
He urged the two governments to continue with their strong leadership of the implementation of bilateral agreements to foster the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. In particular, the Lao leader requested that Vietnam promote cooperation with Laos in agriculture, and expressed thanks to Vietnam for allowing land-locked Laos to use its Vung Ang Port for economic development.
The special relations between Vietnamese and Lao Parties and States hold the strategic meaning to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the respective countries as well as in the region and around the world.
In the coming years, the two countries would face a lot of difficulties and challenges in building, safeguarding and reforming the nation. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen coordination in implementing development strategies in the respective societies while improving the bilateral cooperation efficiency across the fields, especially regarding economics.
Vietnam and Laos pledged to closely work to realise more effectively the agreements signed between the two countries’ Parties and States and the Vietnam-Laos Joint Statement. The two sides will spare no efforts to deepen their political ties and increase experience sharing in building the Party and a strong political system as well as boosting socio-economic development and international integration.
In reply, PM Phuc affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will actively carry out bilateral agreements and take effective measures to remove obstacles in bilateral economic cooperation. He took the occasion to thank the Lao Party and State for their sympathy and timely support for flood and storm victims in Vietnam’s central localities.
