At a meeting with Simon Milner, Facebook’s vice president of public policy in Asia - Pacific Ocean on September 13, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked Facebook to cooperate in removing malicious information that harms Vietnam’s national security and its residents’ peaceful life.

He added that cyber-security is an important factor in ensuring businesses’ operations and this also contributes to improving the investment environment.
Welcoming Simon Milner to Vietnam for the WEF ASEAN 2018, PM Phuc suggested that Facebook needs to be responsible for more than 60 million accounts in Vietnam to ensure the security, safety and privacy for users’ personal information.
The PM supported Facebook's views on contributing to Vietnam's digital ecosystem and emphasized that Facebook is Vietnam's "close friend" with a very high percentage of users.
He suggested that this social network regularly exchange with Vietnamese agencies, together overcome inadequacies to contribute to Vietnam’s development, through which creates opportunities for Facebook to keep growing in Vietnam.
The head of the Vietnamese government affirmed that Vietnam always creates favorable conditions for foreign businesses, including Facebook to operate and do business in the country.
At the reception, Vietnamese Acting Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that Facebook as well as any enterprise in Vietnam must comply with Vietnam’s law such as the duty of paying taxes, complying with the requirements of ensuring security, building a healthy cyberspace.
Hung proposed that Facebook should set aside a percentage of revenue to reinvest in research and development (R&D) in Vietnam and soon open a representative office in the country.
