The Department for Population and Family Planning will hold a program to welcome the 90-millionth newborn baby at the National hospital of obstetrics and gynecology and launch a peace march which is themed “90 million footsteps of Lac Hong descendants”.
Viet Nam had a population of 79.54 million in 2002 and 86.93 million in 2010. Each year, Viet Nam has an average of 924,000 newborn babies.
However, the country is suffering from gender imbalance at birth. The gender ratio at birth was 112.3 boys/100 girls and is likely to increase in the coming time.
The death rate of under five-year-olds is unequal and especially high in mountainous areas.
The quality of healthcare for the elderly is also uneven, merely focusing on big cities.
