The two leaders lauded the achievements in their countries’ relations over the last 25 years and agreed to intensify the Vietnam – South Korea strategic cooperative partnership.
Vietnam and South Korea have common strategic interests in maintaining peace and stability for development, President Quang said, stressing the importance of organising high-level visits and meetings and implementing effective measures and policies to bolster the stable development of economic-trade ties. He applauded South Korea businesses’ stronger investment and participation in equitising State-owned enterprises and restructuring credit institutions in Vietnam.
President Tran Dai Quang asked South Korea Government to create optimal conditions for Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery products to be exported to South Korea and to help the Southeast Asian nation be part of South Korea’s global supply chains.
The host leader called on South Korea to continue providing Vietnam with non-refundable aid and official development assistance packages with preferential interest rates, while helping the country improve the capacity of enforcing law at sea and settle post-war bomb and mine consequences.
President Quang asked both countries to carry out the financial cooperation agreement in some major transport infrastructure projects well. They should continue cultural exchanges, actively support and ensure the safety and legitimate interests of Vietnamese and South Korea citizens, create favourable conditions for activities of the two countries’ representative agencies.
Regarding regional and international issues, he affirmed Vietnam’s consistent viewpoint on supporting the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the serious implementation of the UN Security Council’s resolutions regarding the nuclear issue of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. He asked South Korea to continue supporting Vietnam and ASEAN’s stance on maintaining peace, security and stability and settling East Sea disputes in line with international law.
For his part, South Korea President Moon highly valued the theme of the APEC Year 2017, “Creating Dynamism, Fostering A Shared Future”, which is also the target of Vietnam – South Korea relations.
South Korea attaches importance to its strategic cooperative partnership with Vietnam, he noted, adding that the major attainments during the 25 years of diplomatic ties are a solid foundation to open up bright prospects for bilateral relations in the time ahead.
In addition, South Korea will join Vietnam to unceasingly expand and deepen cooperation in all spheres. It wants both sides to continue strengthening partnerships in human resources development, science-technology, transport, energy and infrastructure.
President Moon voiced his belief that the Vietnamese people, with strong resolve and industriousness, will create a “miracle on the Mekong River”. He invited his Vietnamese counterpart to visit South Korea on the occasion of the 10th founding anniversary of the countries’ strategic partnership in 2018. President Quang also invited South Korea leader to visit Vietnam and wished that South Korea will successfully organise the 2018 Winter Olympics.
