US President Donald Trump has thanks the Vietnamese people for a warm welcome after the Air Force One brought him to Hanoi on Tuesday evening for the second one-on-one meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
“Just arrived in Vietnam. Thank you to all of the people for the great reception in Hanoi. Tremendous crowds, and so much love!” he tweeted.
At the time of writing, his tweet got nearly 12,700 retweets and over 72,000 likes.
On the 30-kilometer trip from the airport to the JW Marriott hotel, Vietnamese people along the road cheered to welcome the president.
This is the second time President Trump is in Vietnam. He attended the APEC summit in Da Nang and paid an official visit to Hanoi in November 2017.
He is scheduled to meet with Vietnamese leaders on February 27 before meeting with Kim Jong Un in the evening for a joint dinner.
Before heading for Vietnam, he expected the summit, following the first one in Singapore in June 2018, will be “very productive”. “With complete Denuclearization, North Korea will rapidly become an Economic Powerhouse. Without it, just more of the same. Chairman Kim will make a wise decision!” he tweeted on February 25.
Meanwhile, Kim arrived in Hanoi on Tuesday morning, also warmly welcomed by locals. The leader expressed his gratitude for the reception.
