Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 1 announced the Government’s key management and operation orientations in 2018.
At the regular Government meeting, Phuc emphasized that the most important work next year is the completion of comprehensive socio-economic targets set for 2018.
Accordingly, first, the Government will pursue the targets of stabilizing the macro-economy and creating significant changes in the implementation of strategic breakthroughs. Focus will be on restructuring the economy in combination with renewing the growth model in a move to raise the productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness. The Government will also encourage innovation and start-ups to develop firms and promote growth.
Second, the Government will drastically reform the administration, enhance discipline and raise the effectiveness of law enforcement and management at all sectors.
Third, it will intensify the fight against corruption, wastefulness and wrongdoing; focus more on social and cultural development; promote social equality and improve people’s living conditions; protect the environment and adapt to climate change; strengthen national defense and security and enhance the effectiveness of external affairs and international integration.
The Prime Minister asked all ministers and members of the government to define the work of their ministries and sectors to carry out the important directions that the Government stated in this meeting.
He entrusted the Ministry of Planning and Investment to detail the key management orientations in the draft of Resolution 01 to submit to the Government before December 15 for further discussion before being signed by the Prime Minister and applied right in early 2018. Resolution 01 is the most important document in the Government’s management and execution in 2018.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister also asked the State Bank of Vietnam to keep a close watch on the currency, credit, interest and exchange rate market to make timely adjustments.
He noted that the electricity price increase has little influence on the CPI. He requested relevant sectors closely follow prices and the market and ensure sufficient supply of goods and services particularly during the year end month and New Year holidays.
PM Phuc requested ministries, sectors and localities to strictly implement the roadmap for divestment at state-owned enterprises, especially at Sabeco, Habeco and other major businesses.
He also urged cabinet members to uphold their promises to the National Assembly and voters and implement the NA’s resolutions.
He warned that ministries, sectors and localities should not feel satisfied with positive socio-economic achievements in the period from January to November and must continue better implementing their tasks, such as addressing the consequences of floods and storms and disbursing public funds.
The PM noted that drastic and comprehensive actions are needed in December 2017 and early 2018 to help storm-ravaged communities.
The PM requested ministries, departments and localities to follow objectives outlined by the 12th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the conclusion of CPV General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the National Assembly’s Resolution on socio-economic development in 2018.
