The Viet Nam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) was asked to do more to grow into a leading economic group to serve national energy security and economic growth and join in safeguarding national sovereignty.
PM Nguyen Tan Dung made the request today in Ha Noi at the PVN's conference to launch its key missions in 2014.
PM Dung highly spoke of the important contributions of the oil and gas sector to national socio-economic development, citing its part in State budget collection and national energy security.
He hoped that PVN would be able to compete with regional and international rivals in the time to come.
The Government leader asked the group to boost cooperation with other partners in a risk-free, close and efficient manner.
“PVN should seriously implement the economic restructuring process, be clearer in benefits and business activities, and craft development strategies that enable it to fulfill the assigned tasks and edge its competitiveness,” said PM Dung.
The host leader also asked the economic group to resolutely withdraw investments from non-core business and continue to improve the quality of its staff as well as administrative capacity.
Last year, PVN's contribution to the State budget surpassed US$ 2.22 billion of the year target. Meanwhile, key projects and the economic restructuring plan were conducted on schedule.
