Quang Nam province kick off the 2017 International Kite Festival

The 2017 International Kite Festival officially kicked off on June 8 in Hoi An city of Quang Nam province, as part of activities under the framework of the 6th Quang Nam Heritage Festival.

The event features the participation of nearly 200 artisans from domestic clubs and nine countries and territories around the world, such as Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan (China), South Korea, China, Thailand, New Zealand and Malaysia.
Kite enthusiasts showed off their handmade kites while giving demonstrations of the traditional craft on the pristine beaches of Quang Nam province. In addition, several folk games, sports events and beach games will also be held during the festival and continued throughout the summer break.
According to Deputy Director of the provincial Culture, Sports and Tourism Department Ho Tan Cuong, the craftsmen will demonstrate kite-making skills, kite decoration and kite flying techniques.
The event is not only an opportunity for artisans to take part in cultural exchange, but also to promote the art of kite flying in Vietnam and countries around the world to domestic and foreign tourists. The festival will take place until June 10 in Hoi An city and Tam Thanh beach in Tam Ky city.
Last year, the festival take place on the beautiful beaches of Vung Tau City with themed Dance of Peace. The event attracts 60 kite artisans and connoisseurs from 25 countries and territories like Germany, Netherlands, the UK, France, Sweden and Singapore.
Nearly 50 artisans from Viet Nam’s big kite clubs, including Phuong Hoang of Ho Chi Minh City and Dieu Hue of Hue also join the event. There competitions in kite making and kite flying. A special night kite performance with sound and lights will also be held.
A food festival to promote traditional Vietnamese cuisine organised during the festival. Performers of art troupes from the province and neighbouring provinces will present music and dance performances to entertain visitors.
