Quang Tri to open Con Co island tourism route

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has agreed to open a new tourism route to Con Co island proposed by the People’s Committee of the Central province of Quang Tri.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam asked provincial authorities to work with the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism and relevant agencies in planning infrastructure construction for tourism, while ensuring socio-economic development in concert with national defence.
Located 30 km from the mainland, Con Co island, which crosses the 17th parallel, is considered an “outpost watch” due to its location.

Covering an area of 2.3 square kilometres in the south of the Gulf of Tonkin, it is one of the most magnificent islands of the central region with a diverse ecosystem.
Con Co Island is blessed with diverse tropical marine ecosystems. Thanks to its large forests, beautiful beaches and pristine coral reefs, the island has huge potential for tourism development.
Con Co is also renowned as a pivotal battlefield during the war against the United States, and much evidence remains there of Vietnam’s ultimate victory.
Visitors to Con Co can visit the hall of tradition which houses items reflecting the history of Con Co island district’s army and people over the past 55 years, pay tribute to Hill 37 Monument and visit Ben Nghe - Mom Ho beach.
