Restructuring tourism plan to be submitted in 2018

Vietnam tourism still reveals many disadvantages such as lack of specific tourism products, lack of strong and professional tourism human resources.

Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam - Head of the State Steering Committee on Tourism has guided the direction and implementation of 2017, the orientation and tasks in 2018 for tourism industry.
According to the Government office report, Vietnam received a record 12.9 million foreign visitors in 2017, a year-on-year increase of 29.1%. The position of Vietnam’s tourism industry also increased on the world market. Vietnam ranked sixth in the 10 tourism destinations with the fastest development in the world in 2017.
However, Vietnam tourism industry still has many limits such as lack of specific tourism products; lack of strong and professional human resources; the service quality in some attractions and destinations is not guaranteed, especially in the peak season; low competitiveness, lack of strong tourism brands; the work of security, safety, hygiene in many places is not good ...
To the fact, Deputy Prime Minister has assigned the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to expeditiously complete the project of restructuring Vietnam tourism industry and submit in the first quarter of 2018, and at the same time, continue studying, adjusting or proposing the formulation of the new Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy and Master Plan in line with the new conditions and situation as well as the provisions of the Tourism Law of 2017 and submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval.
Deputy Prime Minister has assigned the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to direct the tourism industry to select a number of specific and practical tasks such as launching the movement, supporting students to work as volunteer tour guides at tourist sites; building standard toilets at tourist resorts and spots; improving the quality of sanitation works at stations and stops in the arterial traffic routes to meet the requirements of tourist service ... in order to improve the environment and improve the image of Vietnam tourism - a safe and friendly destination.
The members of the State Steering Committee shall work closely and actively with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in organizing the implementation of the tasks assigned in the Government's Program of Action for the implementation of Resolution No.08-NQ/TW of the 12th Politburo; and step up the inspection and examination of the strict observance of the directions of the previous Prime Minister; focus on resolving the shortcomings and weaknesses which Vietnam's tourism is facing and contribute to promoting the development of tourist development environment.
The People's Committees of the provinces and centrally-run cities shall take initiatives in promulgating the local action plans to implement the Political Bureau's Resolution No.08-NQ/TW and directing the local functional forces to resolutely handle the violation in the tourist business environment; at the same time, strengthening measures to ensure security and safety for tourists in the area, protecting and promoting the value of natural resources, and developing community-based tourism products.
In 2018, Vietnam tourism hopes to welcome more than 15.5 million foreign visitors and serve 78 million domestic visitors. The industry hopes total revenue will reach VND620 trillion (US$27 billion).
