Russia President to host Vietnam’s party chief in Sochi on Sept. 6

A number of bilateral documents have been prepared for signing.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong on September 6, during the Vietnamese leader's official visit to Russia from September 5-8.
According to the President of Russia portal, the talks are expected to focus on the key issues of the Russian-Vietnamese comprehensive strategic cooperation, as well as topical regional problems. A number of bilateral documents have been prepared for signing.

The visit takes place amid developing Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.
Earlier, during the Russia’s visit of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang from June 28 to July 1, 2017, the two nations agreed on cooperation of over 20 jointly-invested projects worth around US$10 billion along with other bilateral agreements.
On October 5, 2016, the Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Vietnam came into effect. As a result of the launch of this mechanism, Vietnam has had privileged access to a broad and promising common market of five countries, including Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, with a combined GDP of US$2.2 trillion and a population of 183 million.
Current bilateral investment has seen remarkable increase with Russia’s investment in Vietnam reaching US$2 billion, while that of Vietnam in Russia standing at US$2.5 billion.  
2019 will mark 25 years of singing Treaty on Principles of Friendly Relations between Russia and Vietnam, basing on which the two countries form their bilateral ties. It is chosen by the two nations’ leaders as the year of Russia in Vietnam and Vietnam in Russia.
