On December 28, Russian Ambassador Konstantin Vnukov hosted a press conference in Hanoi reviewing Vietnam –Russia relation during the year in observance of the 65th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

This year,  political dialogues have been intensified, demonstrated by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedew’s visit to Vietnam and President Truong Tan Sang’s visit to attend the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow.

Bilateral free trade agreement among Eurasian members, including Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam signed on May 29, 2015, marks a step forward expanding bilateral economic and investment ties.

Two-way trade between the two nations reached US$3.74 billion last year and US$2.74 billion in ten months. Russia poured US$2 billion into 114 projects in Vietnam while the Southeast Asian nation invested US$2.4 billion in 18 projects throughout Russia.

As many as 6,000 Vietnamese students are pursuing studies in Russia. The Russian government provided scholarships for 800 students and the figure is expected to increase to 1,000 by 2018.

The two countries have maintained fruitful cooperation in the fields of oil and gas, energy, national defence-security, culture, education and science and they are destined to step up business cooperation and cross-cultural exchange, the Russian diplomat said, adding that his nation is to publish a collection of material highlighting Vietnam, its culture and people.
