Samsung Vietnam has produced two billion smartphones since its local operations debuted in April 2009.
THE HANOI TIMES — Samsung’s factories in the northern provinces of Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen have produced two billion smartphones after 16 years of operations, said Roh Tae Moon, Acting Head of Samsung Electronics’ Device Experience Division.

In H1/2025, Samsung Vietnam earned US$31.8 billion worth of revenue and exported $28 billion, he told a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on August 26.
The “Made in Vietnam” Galaxy Z Fold 7 product, launched in July, has gained strong traction across global markets including the US and Europe, Roh added.
Samsung’s total investment in Vietnam reached $23.2 billion at the end of 2024 since its local operations started in April 2009, he said.
Beyond Samsung Electronics, affiliates such as Samsung Display and Samsung Electro-Mechanics are also expanding their operations in Vietnam, he said.
According to the Korean executive, Samsung has introduced multiple initiatives to support Vietnam’s supporting industries since 2015. In early 2025, Samsung Vietnam set up a rapid response team to expand sourcing and support local firms with smart factory solutions and workforce training.
Samsung’s representative also appreciated the Government, ministries, and local authorities for creating a favorable business environment, and praised the dedication of 90,000 Vietnamese employees working at Samsung.
Roh promised that Samsung will accompany the Vietnamese Government in contributing to the country’s growth.

For his part, Prime Minister Chinh praised Samsung’s strong performance in Vietnam, noting its major contribution to the economy and bilateral ties.
He expressed his delight at the successful state visit of Party General Secretary To Lam to the Republic of Korea in early August, noting that both sides are actively implementing high-level agreements.
According to the prime minister, the long-standing ties between Vietnam and Korea are reflected in growing communities of Vietnamese people in Korea, Koreans in Vietnam, and an increasing number of multicultural families.
"The Vietnam–Korea partnership remains stable and strong in all circumstances, serving as a foundation for business cooperation and investment," Chinh said.
According to the Vietnamese government leader, Vietnam plans to improve its investment climate in 2025, push forward with three strategic breakthroughs, and effectively implement the two-tier local government model. Vietnam expects economic growth in 2025 at 8.3%-8.5%, and minimum 10% in 2026-2031.
To achieve those targets, the prime minister expected Samsung to continue supporting Vietnam’s goals of fast and sustainable development based on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
He hoped that Samsung will fulfill its strategies and commitments in Vietnam, expand investment especially in high-tech and R&D, and develop a modern tech ecosystem in areas such as chipmaking and electronics.
Chinh also encouraged Samsung to promote digital transformation, strengthen IT infrastructure, train high-quality human resources, increase localization, transfer technology to Vietnam, and appoint Vietnamese executives to Samsung Vietnam’s leaderships.
In the spirit of “mutual benefit, shared risks, and balanced interests,” the prime minister expected that Samsung would remain a trusted partner of Vietnam in the journey toward economic and technological progress, with the shared goal of prosperity.
