Huong, 38, was selected among roughly 200 candidates to work as Military Planning Officer for the Office of Military Affairs (OMA) within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) at the UN Headquarters.

He passed the application document screening, a written exam, and an interview with flying colors, according to the UN.

On March 12, he got the decision by Vietnam’s State President to work for the world’s most powerful intergovernmental organization.

Before passing the exams, Huong worked as a Training Planning Officer at the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) in 2016-2017 and a Military Observer at the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) during 2018-2019.

He shared his view that working at the UN body will enable him to learn the international policies and support Vietnam’s army.

Before Huong, Lt. Col. Luong Truong Vinh from Vietnam was recruited as a Planning Officer of the UN Department of Peace Operations in January 2020.

Vietnam has joined the UN Peacekeeping operations since 2014 with a group of around 180 military officers sent for missions in South Sudan and the Central Africa Republic.
