The Ministry of National Defence and Dien Bien province jointly held a seminar on March 20, providing a fascinating insight into the Dien Bien Phu victory over French colonialism 60 years ago.
In his keynote speech, Deputy Minister of Defence Nguyen Thanh Cung noted on March 13, 1954, under the clear-sighted leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people and army launched the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, resulting in the world resounding victory over French colonialism on May 7, 1954.
Scientists shed light on the Vietnamese people’s the war of resistance against French colonialism, the French aggression scheme, and American interventions, as well as the foundation of French military strongholds in Dien Bien.
They made an in-depth analysis of the correct and clear-sighted leadership of the Party, Military Party Committee, the Ministry of National Defence, and the Command of the campaign, including Commander-in-chief General Vo Nguyen Giap, culminating in the Dien Bien Phu victory.
They also clarified the establishment of the combat alliance of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and the whole-hearted support and assistance of international friends, especially the former Soviet Union and China, contributing to the victory of the resistance war against French colonialism.
On March 21, delegates will tour a number of relics closely associated with the Dien Bien Phu victory 60 years ago.
