Unlike other festivals held in the spring, the Chem festival (in Thuy Phuong Commune, Bac Tu Liem District, Hanoi) takes place in sunny weather, with a burning heat on the mid of 5th lunar month. However, this year, the festival was held in a cool atmosphere. Accordingly, the festival attracted a huge amount of visitors.
Chem Temple Festival is one of the oldest events of Ha Thanh people. Chem temple is a place of worshiping Ly Ong Trong and his wife - Princess Bach Tinh and Mr. Nguyen Van Chat. Ly Ong Trong, who had great merits with the two dynasties- Hung Due Vuong and An Duong Vuong. He was also the first diplomat sent to China to help the Qin Emperor drive out the barbarous Hung invaders.
Chem Temple Festival is the ancient festivals with many typical rituals among the cultural activities of farmers in the Red River Delta. Through the festival, the old wish the young generations to better understand the family lineage, historical tradition, and the feat of their father, in order to elicit the love of country and community.
With that meaningful aim, on June 17, 2016, Chem Temple Festival was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as the National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
