President Truong Tan Sang attended a ceremony to present the People’s Artist title to 102 artists at Hanoi Opera House on January 10.
On the occasion, the Meritorious Artist title was also awarded to 377 artists.
The President affirmed that these titles are the Party’s and State’s noble rewards for outstanding artists who have contributed greatly to building and developing the cultural sector and been respected by their colleagues and people.
He expressed his hope that in the context of extensive international integration and cultural exchange, Vietnamese artists in general will continue improving their knowledge and capacity to create high value works and help promote Vietnam’s cultural values to the world.
He asked the awarded to promote their core role in artistic activities and support young artists.
Before submitting for the Government’s approval, the professional board received 114 submissions for People’s Artist nominees and 416 submissions for Meritorious Artist nominees.
Earlier, 265 artists had been honoured with the People’s Artist title and 1,602 with the Meritorious Artist title in the fields of music, film, architecture, dance, fine arts, photography, theatre, folk culture, literature and broadcasting.
