Ted Osius becomes new US Ambassador to Vietnam

Ted Osius has officially become new US Ambassador to Vietnam, affirmed Jeff Rathke, Director of Press Office under the US Department of State, at a daily press briefing in Washington DC on November 19 (Washington time).

Jeff Rathke said “This is a welcome progress. We’re grateful to Leader Reid and Leader McConnell, and of course, the Chairman Menendez and Ranking Member Corker.”

In May 2014, US President Barack Obama nominated Ted Osius as ambassador to Vietnam. However, this nomination must be ratified by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the full Senate before it is accepted.

Ted Osius (full name Theodore G. Osius III) is a citizen of Maryland State. He has worked as a US diplomat in Indonesia, India, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

Before being nominated by President Obama as US ambassador to Vietnam, Professor Osius was a lecturer at the National War College and a researcher at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) – one of the world’s leading research organizations specializing in diplomacy policy.

Earlier, during his confirmation hearing, Osius told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the time is coming to consider lifting US restrictions on arms sales to Vietnam.
