Engineer Do Duc Anh and his team from the Digital Technology R&D Center of Rang Dong Light Source and Vacuum Flask JSC received the first prize for their project “AI-based Electrical Safety Warning Solution for Early Detection and Reduction of Power System Incidents.”

This year, the IT, electronics, and telecommunications category attracted more than 80 entries.

According to the Hanoi Union of Science and Technology Associations, which organized the contest, submissions improved significantly in quality. Many young engineers, teachers, and students proposed creative ideas showing their adaptability to modern technologies.

The jury said many projects show originality and strong potential for immediate application, contributing to Hanoi’s digital transformation. Some innovations could be expanded nationwide, reflecting the growing capacity of Vietnam’s tech community.

In addition to the IT, electronics, and telecommunications category, the organizing committee awarded first prizes in five other fields:

Mechanics–automation: TBM tunneling machine sliding method using trolley and clamp systems (Tran Duc Tuan and colleagues, Fecon JSC).

Materials–chemicals–energy–transportation–construction: Multifunctional nano paint technology for construction and architectural works (Prof. Thai Hoang and colleagues, Institute of Materials Science, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology).

Agriculture–forestry–fishery–resources–environment: Co-treatment of soil and water polluted by oil, gasoline, and heavy metals using biological agents and adsorbent materials (Dao Ngoc Nam and colleagues, Red Sun Biotechnology JSC).

Medicine–pharmacy: Evaluation of renal vein lengthening using accompanying gonadal vein grafts in living donor kidney transplantation (Duong Duc Hung and colleagues, Viet Duc University Hospital).

Education–training–innovative management solutions: Design and implementation of a digital learning material system to promote innovation in high school biology teaching under the 2018 national curriculum (Duong Thi Thu Ha, Phan Huy Chu–Dong Da High School).

The contest, launched in mid-September 2024, received 503 projects and technical solutions, according to Le Xuan Rao, Chairman of the Hanoi Union of Science and Technology Associations and Standing Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee.

From the preliminary round, the jury selected 127 projects, about 25% of the total, for further evaluation. All winning projects met three criteria: creativity, socio-economic effectiveness, and feasibility for practical implementation and commercialization.

The contest is part of Hanoi’s Program No. 07 on “Promoting the Development of Science, Technology, and Innovation in 2021-2025.” It aims to foster a culture of creativity, encourage innovation among individuals and organizations, promote the effective application of scientific and technical solutions in production and daily life and contribute to the capital’s modernization and sustainable socio-economic development.
