The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism kicked off an exhibition cum trade fair, themed “Tet Viet 2017”, honouring traditional crafts in Hanoi on January 18 on the occasion of upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

The “Tet Viet 2017” Exhibition also aims to celebrate important events in 2017, including the 87th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3).
The traditional atmosphere and cultural space of the Tet festival in the old days are being introduced and vividly recreated at the exhibition.
The event aims to create the bustling atmosphere of Tet through cultural activities, while enabling the local residents to go shopping and enjoy entertainment during the festival, thus preserving and promoting traditional cultural values.
As many as 80 booths showcase nearly 100 traditional handicraft products such as sculptured, rattan and bamboo, silk and pottery items; and agricultural products, among others.
The event gathered more than 80 booths selling quality products, which are specialties of regions nationwide, including souvenirs, handicraft products, home decorations, agricultural products and Tet flowers, among others.
Other activities include a painting exhibition themed “Tet Viet with Traditional Handicraft Products”, calligraphy writing, among others.

Besides, this year's festival will include the showcasing and competition of the Ho chicken, a breed of chicken originating in Bac Ninh, which is considered its real unique character of culture and cuisine.
Particularly, visitors can try making folk Dong Ho paintings with craftsmen from Thuan Thanh district, the northern province of Bac Ninh, and enjoy traditional art performances, cockfighting, and traditional food.
The event runs through January 23.
