The closing ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2015 - Thanh Hoa with the theme “Connecting World Heritages” was held at the Lam Son square in Thanh Hoa city on December 26.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa People's Committee Pham Dang Quyen said 62 tourism activities were organised in the National Tourism Year 2015, including 17 key events chaired by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism take place in the northern central province of Thanh Hoa.
The National Tourism Year 2015 has created favourable conditions for Thanh Hoa's tourism to improve the quality of tourism strength products.
According to the figures revealed at the closing ceremony, the number of visitors to 16 provinces and cities nationwide that follow the national event “Connecting World Heritages” reached 96 million arrivals, up 11% compared with 2014.
Revenue from tourism in 2015 reached nearly 200,000 billion VND, up 13% over the year 2014.
The number of international and domestic tourists to Thanh Hoa province reached 5.53 million this year, up 21.9% compared with 2014, generating 5,180 billion VND, up 40.4% from the previous year.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh hailed the achievements Thanh Hoa has made in hosting the national tourism event.
The locality has also worked closely with 15 other provinces and cities across the nation in organising culture, sports, tourism and trading activities throughout the year, following the main theme of the national event “Connecting World Heritages”, he added.
The Minister expressed his hope that the province will build on the positive achievements in the year to further promote the sector toward becoming one of the key national tourism sites by 2020.
Minister Anh suggested Thanh Hoa province, other localities, ministries and departments continue to raise awareness of the whole society, devise numerous incentives to lure investment in tourism sector, enhance the training of human resources and better control the services quality.
The organizers said the southern province of Kien Giang will host the 2016 National Tourism Year in Phu Quoc - Mekong Delta with the theme "Discover the Southern land".
