At the meeting with Ambassador and Head of EU delegation in Vietnam Angelet Bruno, President Tran Dai Quang expressed satisfaction at the positive development of Vietnam - EU cooperation. He welcomes the EU member states that have completed the ratification of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) with Vietnam, he suggests EU soon to complete the internal procedures so that PCA takes effect.
Regarding the EU's commitment to technical support for Vietnam in the process of implementing the Free Trade Agreement Vietnam - EU (EVFTA), the President proposed the EU to finalize a legal review to the two sides can EVFTA Register and deploy the application.
State President Quang asked Ambassador Angelet to fast track the approval process for the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) with Vietnam. In Addition, the State President expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Angelet for the EU’s US$100,000 contribution in support of the nation’s effort to deal with drought and salt intrusion and other climate change responses.
He also thanked Ambassador Angelet for the EU’s international role and contribution to ensuring peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region and support of maritime freedom in accordance with UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
For his part, Ambassador Bruno Angelet outlined proposals for bolstering trade and investment between the two sides that are on the agenda to be dealt with during the upcoming visit of the President of the European Council. He also discussed a variety of alternative measures that are in the works aimed at increasing the enrolment of Vietnamese students at universities, colleges and trade schools in EU member nations.
Ambassador Bruno Angelet said that the EU had planned to focus on several areas of cooperation with Vietnam, such as energy auditing, finance with the Ministry of Industry and Trade; law enforcement, judicial support to the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Public Security; security cooperation, freedom of navigation, aviation under UNCLOS. The EU also wishes to receive more students from Vietnam to study and research in Europe.
