The success of the first NA session augurs a perfect start for the new term: Chairman

The first session concluded after nine consecutive working days, eight days shorter than planned due to a serious Covid-19 situation.

The first session of the 15th National Assembly (NA) ended in success after nine days would be the perfect beginning for the 2021-2025 term, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said at the wrap-up meeting today [July 28].

Amid the severe Covid-19 outbreak in major cities, Hue said the NA agreed to cut short the duration of the session by eight days.

“This, however, has not affected the NA’s agenda with the ratification of 30 resolutions, including those of strategic significance for the country’s development in the long term,” Hue said.

Amid the severe Covid-19 situation in Vietnam, Hue noted the NA has included in the session’s resolution on urgent measures to fight the pandemic, saying this would provide the Government with legal instruments to address the situation, even steps that have not been regulated or going against existing legislation.

During the final meeting of today’s session, the NA ratified the appointment of 26 Government members nominated by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

“Issues raised in the NA have been discussed thoroughly with a clear explanation from the Government and the verification process from NA committees,” he said.

Deputy Thai Quynh Mai Dung from Vinh Phuc Province suggested the combination between experienced representatives and newly elected deputies has worked well in this session.

Dung also noted the fact that 30.26% of NA deputies are women a record compared to previous terms that showing strong improvements towards gender equality.

Meanwhile, Deputy Nguyen Thanh Cam from Tien Giang province highlighted the significance of two national target programs on poverty reduction and building new-style rural areas.

“Two programs would contribute positively to the country’s efforts in pursuing sustainable development,” she added.

Given a section of the NA’s resolution of the first session is dedicated to measures against the Covid-19 pandemic, Deputy Le Hoang Anh from Gia Lai Province said this showed the strong commitment of the NA in accompanying the government in the fight against the pandemic.
