Thousands flock to beach on Doan Ngo Festival

Thousands of people flocked to Quy Nhon beach in Binh Dinh Province on the Doan Ngo Festival as they believe that bathing will help them get rid of all diseases.

Doan Ngo Festival, also known as Pest Exterminating Festival, is one of the major festivals in Vietnam, normally celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. This year, Doan Ngo Festival falls on June 2. Translated literally, Tet means festival, Doan means the start, and Ngo, the sun at noon so the festival will usually be held at noon.
 
 
Since 11am, many people already gathered, making a long line from Nin Tho Strait to Ghenh Rang Beach. At 12pm, thousands of people then ran to the sea. According to the locals, 12pm is the sacred hour to have a bath, it would help remove all unluckiness and pests inside the body for better health.
Going to the beach on Doan Ngo Festival has become annual celebration to people in Binh Binh Province. Some people even brought home sea waters for their family at home.
