Thua Thien Hue welcomed over 1.5 million tourists in the first five months of 2017
In the first five months of 2017, Thua Thien Hue welcomed over 1.5 million tourists, representing a year-on-year increase of 1.9 percent, collecting a revenue of over VND1.4 trillion (over US$61 million).

Foreign holiday-makers to Hue mainly came from Thailand, France, Australia, Germany, South Korea and Japan. Marine tourism has played a big role in luring visitors to the locality, especially Lang Co and Thuan An beaches. Since it was recognised as one of the most beautiful bays in the world in 2009, the number of tourists to Lang Co has increased by 25 percent each year consecutively.
The provincial Department of Tourism coordinated with relevant agencies to ensure the quality of tourism and transport services, helping tourists have a memorable time during their stay in the province.
The province has also partnered with localities in the central key economic region to introduce several special tourism packages serving foreign arrivals along the East-West Economic Corridor.
In 2017, Thua Thien Hue province set goals of attracting between 3.3 - 3.5 million tourists, foreign visitors making up from 40 – 45 percent thereof, and raking in revenues of VND3.2 - VND3.3 trillion (US$148 million).
Beside Hue, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first five months of 2017 was estimated at 5.25 million, a year-on-year surge of 29.6 percent. According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, while arrivals by air touched 4.35 million passengers, an increase of 32.4 percent against the same period last year, 730,200 visitors came by road (up 12.7 percent), and the rest167,800 people arrived by sea (up 43.9 percent).
Of these, there were 3.82 million visitors from Asia, up 34.4 percent year-on-year. There were 1.57 million tourists from China, up 55.5 percent over the same period. China ranks first in the number of visitors to Vietnam, accounting for nearly one third of all international arrivals to the country in the first five months of 2017.
In addition, an increase in tourist inflow from Asia’s key markets, with 889,200 people from the South Korea, 323,000 Japanese visitors, and 247,700 Taiwanese tourists, up 40.9 percent, 7.1 percent and 22.6 percent, respectively, against the same period last year.
