The cruise ship passengers were welcomed at Chan May port with flowers, souvenirs and received best wishes from the local authorities.
Thua Thien-Hue province held a ceremony to welcome more than 2,000 foreign passengers of luxury cruise ship Celebrity Constellation on January 28.
Celebrity Constellation docked at Chan May port in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, bringing the first cruise tourists from the US, Canada, UK and France to the locality in 2019. They will visit tourist attractions across the central region in Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Hue’s heritage sites, which is set to be the highlight for the tour.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Thua Thien-Hue province Department of Tourism Nguyen Van Phuc said that the welcoming ceremony is part of a series of activities this year to promote Vietnam, its country and people and Thua Thien-Hue in general.
During the welcoming ceremony held at Chan May port, local authorities presented flowers, souvenirs, and conveyed their best wishes to visitors.
In 2018, Thua Thien-Hue welcomed more than 134,000 tourists and crewmen aboard Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Tui Cruises, Costa Criere, Viking Ocean Cruises, Small Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises, introducing them to Hue heritage sites and destinations in the central region.
The provincial tourism sector strives to welcome 4.5 - 4.7 million visitors in 2019, up 8% from 2018, 40 – 45% of them are foreigners.
Earlier, Hue city People’s Committee has inaugurated a pedestrian road along Huong River on January 15. The project construction started in February 2018 at a cost of over VND52.9 billion (US$2.27 million) funded by South Korea government via the Korea International Cooperation (KOICA).
The project includes a 450m ironwood-floored pedestrian bridge, a wharf, an outdoor stage, lighting and traffic systems and a pedestrian street along the Perfume riverbank from Phu Xuan bridge to Festival restaurant. The road connects Nguyen Dinh Chieu pedestrian street with Ly Tu Trong Park.
