Tourism development takes center stage with multlcultural activities

The Ban Flower Festival 2018 will open in Dien Bien Phu City, in the northwestern province of Dien Bien, on March 17. This annual cultural tourism event will be held during the Ban flower season after the Lunar New Year, to popularize the natural beauty, culture and people of Dien Bien Province among domestic and foreign tourists.
Running until the end of May, apart from a special artistic program at the opening ceremony, activities will include a show featuring  ethnic traditional clothes, sports and folk games and artistic performances.
Successful previous festivals attracted many tourists to the northwestern region in general and Dien Bien province in particular. Festivals of ethnic minority groups in Dien Bien Province will showcase outstanding cultural values and contribute to the Party’s policies on enhancing cultural awareness towards sustainable national development.

A festival featuring a taste of Japanese culture is scheduled to be held at the Ly Thai To flower garden in Hanoi from March 23 - 26. The event – jointly organised by the Hanoi municipal People's Committee and the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam – is one of a series of activities planned to commemorate 45 years of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties.
During the four-day festival, visitors will be able to experience traditional Japanese handicrafts and delicacies, a Japanese tea ceremony, kimono fashion shows, and traditional folk dances and games.
The event will include traditional art performances such as Ca Tru (ceremonial singing) and Xam singing (ballads sung by wandering blind musicians) by artists from Hanoi. In addition, an investment and tourism promotion programme between Hanoi and Japan, and exchange activities on education and health, will  be held during the festival.

Da Nang has deployed the car information system to promote tourism. Five of these  will be launched at Dragon bridge (between Tran Hung Dao and Bach Dang road); Bien Dong park (Vo Nguyen Giap road); Vo Nguyen Giap – Vo Van Kiet intersections (Vo Nguyen Giap road) and Vo Nguyen Giap – Nguyen Van Thoai intersections (Vo Nguyen Giap road).
Situated within a 11,76 m2 area, the visitor information booths will provide free publications to tourists to Da Nang along with  information-seeking screens, wifi systems and tour guides. Da Nang expects to launch five visitor information booth cars on March 12, 2018, according to the Da Nang Department of Tourism.
Da Nang has become a popular destination for both domestic and foreign tourists in recent years. In 2017, the city was honoured as “Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination” at the World Travel Awards Asia and Australasia Gala Ceremony.
The total number of visitors to Da Nang in 2017 is estimated at 6.6 million, increasing by 19% compared to 2016. The total social income from tourism is estimated at VND19.4 trillion (US$853 million), an increase of 20.6%. The turnover from accommodation and travelling is estimated at VND6.6 trillion (US$294 million), increasing by 8.6% compared to 2016, according to the latest statistics from the Da Nang Department of Tourism.
Book festival to return to Ho Chi Minh City this March
The 10th Ho Chi Minh City Book Festival will return to Le Van Tam Park in District 1 from March 19 - 25, 2018 with over 35 million copies of books planned for display.
The festival, with the theme “Books – Culture, Integration and Development”, will feature about 800 stalls of 200 domestic and foreign publishers and distributors who will bring to the fair around 350,000 titles of books, the city’s department of Information and Communications reported.
Book lovers attending the event will be offered discounts of up to 20% on all books and stationery and special deals with discounts of up to 50% will also be offered during the last three days of the event.
An exhibition on the annual Ho Chi Minh City Book Festival over the past decade will be held on the sidelines of the fair. “The festival is intended to nurture reading culture among local people and provide an opportunity for book lovers to meet with authors and get to know about new publications,” Duong Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Information and Communications was quoted as saying.
