The capital city of Hanoi welcomed more than 54,000 international visitors during the four-day holidays from April 29 to May 2, a year-on-year increase of 33 percent.
The number of domestic holidaymakers was estimated at 289.480, up 11 percent against the same period last year. The city’s tourism sector raked in 867 billion VND (38.1 million USD) in revenue, a year-on-year rise of 21 percent.
While many residents of Hà Nội left the city to vacation elsewhere, the city registered a significant surge of 33 per cent visitors compared with the same period last year. More than a quarter million tourists visited the city, with usual tourist spots such as the Temple of Literature, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the old Thăng Long Imperial Citadel busy throughout the holidays.
Văn Miếu Quốc Tử Giám (Temple of Literature) welcome 20.835 visitors, raked in 593 billion VND in revenue, up 15 percent against the same period last year. Thang Long Imperial Citadel welcome 5.085 visitors, up 10 percent against the same period last year; Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum welcome 70.000 visitors.
Beside, the tourists in Ba Vì district welcome 100.000 visitors, up against the same period last year. Ba Vi National Park welcome 14.643 visitors, Ngoc Son Temple welcome 15.888 visitors. In three-day holiday, Duong Lam Ancient Village welcome 2.172, Tay Phuong Pagoda welcome 2.010 visitors. In four-day holiday, Huong Pagoda welcome 21.304 visitors.
Other localities such as the central city of Da Nang and the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho also drew many holidaymakers. Da Nang received more than 311,300 tourists, including 84,500 foreigners and 226,700 domestic visitors, representing a year-on-year rises of 91.2 percent and 26 percent, respectively.
During the holidays, visitors could participate in the 2017 Da Nang International Fireworks Festival which began on April 29 with various activities, including a marine tourism programme, a street music show, an art performance, and an international cuisine festival.
Most of the foreign tourists came from China, Japan and South Korea. Meanwhile, Can Tho served some 100,000 vacationers during the holidays, a yearly increase of 12 percent, including nearly 6,000 overseas visitors. The city’s tourism industry grossed 30.5 billion VND (1.3 million USD) in revenue, a year-on-year rise of 17 percent. Attractive destinations included Southern Truc Lam Zen Monastery, My Khanh tourism village and Lung Cot Cau tourism site.
Meanwhile, Huế - a central city and the country’s former imperial capital, welcomed some 280,000 visitors during the holidays, a 25 per cent increase from the same period last year, of which 68,000 were foreign tourists. The city’s hotels were nearly booked to capacity, with visitors showing keen interest in the night tour of the imperial city – a new tourism initiative by the local authority that began on April 22.
Other popular destinations such as Hải Phòng along the northern coastline, Cát Bà Island, southern Bình Thuận and Long An also welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors during the holidays this year.
