Trade union federation backs Vietnam’s sovereignty in East Sea
The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) Presidential Council asserts its absolute support for Vietnam as well as the country’s efforts to protect the national sovereignty and sovereign right in the East Sea by peaceful means in line with the UN Charter and international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The resolution also gave full backing to the struggle for legitimate interests of labourers and their organisations across the world.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and WFTU Vice President Dang Ngoc Tung said that over the past 70 years, the Federation of Trade Unions has helped the international labour and trade union movements gain various triumphs.
In the time ahead, the federation should better use its role and position to undertake more responsibilities for the working class over the world, suggested Tung.
The WFTU Presidential Council meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming 17th World Trade Union Congress to be held in South Africa this October and working agenda for 2016.
Established in Paris in 1945, the WFTU represents 92 million trade unionists in 126 countries.
