Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue has signed decisions recognizing Hanoi’s two districts of Quoc Oai and Gia Lam as meeting the standards of new-style rural area, local media reported.
Accordingly, the two districts will focus on the criteria of production and environment to ensure sustainability in building new-style rural areas.
Quoc Oai district has completed the target of new-style rural areas in 100% communes, fulfilling numerous criteria including 100% of commune healthcare clinics meeting the standards set by the Ministry of Health, 100% of rural households using piped drinking water, 86.56% of the population covered by health insurance, the rate of poverty falling to 0.46%, better than the city’s standard (2%).
Meanwhile, Gia Lam district has also achieved many positive results with high economic growth and comprehensive development. The average growth rate in the period of 2010 – 2018 is 12.7%.
From 2010 to June 2019, the total capital for new-style rural construction in Gia Lam reached VND5,015 billion (US$215.65 million). The district has invested in constructing, renovating and upgrading 227 kilometers of roads, installed lighting system in over 411 kilometers and repaired 151 schools.
The district’s facelift has changed substantially, 20/20 communes in Gia Lam have met the new-style rural area standard. It also fulfilled 9/9 criteria of the new-style rural district.
So far, six districts in Hanoi including Dan Phuong, Dong Anh, Thanh Tri, Hoai Duc, Gia Lam and Quoc Oai have been recognized as "The district meeting new-style rural area standards".
To achieve the above-mentioned results, Hanoi has mobilized VND76,451 billion (nearly US$3.3 billion) to implement the National Target Program on building new-style rural areas.
